Time to kick my feet up…

Normally I run this trail, but today it’s nice to walk it with Livy and my Mother-in-Law.

So, I am just a wee bit sore from Sunday’s Asics LA Marathon. Next time I will study that elevation chart a little more or try and channel Brianne Nelson who flies down the hills! I feel mentally energized, but as I stood at the bottom of our stairs last night holding Livy it looked more like Mt. Everest. I was incredibly sore after my first marathon in 2003, and then was never that sore again. I guess because it’s been 6 long years since I’ve run a full 26.2 miles, it’s like it was my first one.

I’m not totally sure of my future racing plans other than the fact that they will be geared to the Olympic Trials next February in 2016. Right now, I am enjoying some much needed down-time. It’s nice to have some off time after a race that went well, as opposed to a bad one. It is so much easier to recovery and move forward after being on an emotional high from a solid race. For this reason, I always tell athletes to find something good out of every race, learn something and move on. Though I am enjoying my walks with Livy, I’m ready to get back out there and see what I can do. And by the way, did you know I am 39 years old!!!!

So proud of you. I’m guessing for the first time ever I won’t have to remind you how old you’re going to be on your next birthday.

  3. Hi Blake, So very proud of all that you’ve accomplished. I am excited you’ll be joining us on the other side of the age bracket. I think the 40 somethings are going to continue to be very competitive. Take a deep breath & enjoy some much deserved down time. You can get back to being fierce next week. xoxo, Jen

Congratulations Blake! I was so excited to hear of your success. You run for all the mom’s out there who struggle to find their way out of the fog after having babies. Just thrilled for you!

Congratulations on your win in your last race which I think was in LA. Maybe another Olympics in your future? George Penn MD
