Getting on a roll…

Grrrrrrr...post long-run growl.

Grrrrrrr…post long-run growl.

I just finished my usual solo 18 mile long run in Pebble Beach and could not help but think of one of my favorite quotes as I was running by Bill Squires, “The long run is what puts the tiger in the cat.” I used to hate long runs because they would wipe me out for the rest of the day, but after several marathon training stints I quickly learned that they were the key to feeling strong physically and mentally.

Lately, the more I run the better I feel. This week will end up being a big mileage week for me at 106 miles. My Coach Bob Sevene always talks about getting on a roll with training and racing. It’s easy to stay on top when you get there, but getting there is the hard part. You forget how hard you had to work to reach that peak fitness. Despite being on a slight incline with training, I feel I am picking up some momentum…maybe defying some laws of physics. I am excited to tackle training for a fall marathon…this ball is rolling, so watch out!
