I have been spoiled. Being a professional runners these last 15 years I have been able to run around 9am every morning which was perfect. I had plenty of time to get up, drink coffee, and watch the news all comfy on the couch.
Enter the kiddos. Life certainly changed, but I would not change a thing. But just as life changed taking care of two cutie pies, I had to adjust my running accordingly. Since I am not quite ready to give up competition, I am still trying to fit in some intense workouts, long runs and two -a - days. It’s all pretty difficult with a husband that works long hours.
My Mom and her husband, Alan, live a mile away and are my primary childcare luckily. It truly does take a village to raise a child, so any and all help is appreciated. Well, after one of my last races, Livy did them in. I was gone for 3 days, and she was her usual 1.5 year old terror that also decided she would not nap for them.
Not wanting to burn out my awesome babysitters, I decided to adjust my running schedule once again. I am now getting in my easy runs before Jon goes to work which means out the door at 5:30 and back no later than 7:15.  It’s a bit painful, but the good thing is the runs go by fast because I don’t really wake up until half way through. I am a morning person, though, and sunrise running along the ocean is serene and spiritual. So far so good, but it’s going to be a long, dark winter. Good luck to everyone getting it in when you can. Have fun, and be safe!
Blake, as a morning runner who began for the same reason over 30 years ago, all I can say is that is grows on you. I wouldn’t run at any other time of day, and the kids are long gone!
Sally was right again,it was you at 5:45 am. Maybe Sally could do pick ups with you, I’ll get her a motorcycle to keep up!
